Good to Know
Before You Buy
GC contracts drive most drywall requirements. We go through each one with you before you sign.
- Certificates. GCs usually require additional insured status and waiver of subrogation on your certificate.
- Audits. Workers comp audits look at payroll and subcontractors, so keep a certificate from every sub you use.
- Workers comp. Many states require contractors to carry workers comp, in some states from the first employee.
- Mold. Mold is excluded or limited on many liability policies. Ask how yours handles it.
- Completed work. Damage that shows up after you finish falls under completed operations. Make sure your policy includes it.
- Tools and lifts. Lifts, scaffolding and tools need equipment coverage, since liability doesn't cover your own gear.
Pair It With
Gaps Drywall Contractors Often Miss
Liability is only the start. These need their own coverage, and we check for each one when we quote.
Uninsured Subs Can Raise Your Premium
At audit, uninsured subs can be counted as your employees. Collect a certificate from every sub you hire.
Work Trucks Need Commercial Auto
Personal auto usually excludes vehicles used mainly for business. Commercial auto covers your trucks and the people who drive them.
Contracts Often Ask for Higher Limits
A commercial umbrella adds a layer above your liability, auto and employers liability, often for less than raising each limit.
Your Tools Need Their Own Coverage
Liability doesn't cover your own tools. Tools and equipment coverage protects them on the job and in your truck.
Your Business Depends on Key People
If losing one person would hurt sales or operations, key person coverage gives the business money to recruit and keep going.
Bonds for Public and Larger Jobs
Public and larger private projects commonly require performance and payment bonds, and we help with those too.
Questions
What Drywall Contractors Ask Us
Don't see your question? Ask us directly. A licensed agent will answer, in English or Spanish.
What does a GC need on my certificate?
Usually additional insured status, waiver of subrogation and set limits. Send us the contract and we'll make sure the policy and certificate match.
Why did my comp audit raise my premium?
Audits compare your actual payroll and subs to the estimate. Uninsured subs are often counted as your employees, so collecting certificates matters.
Can you help me in Spanish?
Yes. We can walk you through your coverage, audits and certificates in English or Spanish.
