Demolition Contractor Insurance

Demolition is one of the hardest trades to insure, and many insurance companies won't write it at all. We go to the ones that do, look for exclusions on collapse, pollution and neighboring property, and match your limits to what your contracts require. Good to Know

Before You Buy

Demolition is one of the classes standard policies most often limit. We check each one with you before you sign.

  • Policy limits. Many standard contractor policies exclude demolition or limit it to light interior work.
  • Asbestos and lead. Asbestos and lead are usually excluded from general liability, so work that disturbs them needs its own pollution coverage.
  • Neighboring buildings. Damage to neighboring buildings is a common demolition claim, so contracts often ask for higher limits.
  • Debris hauling. Trucks hauling debris need commercial auto, often with higher limits than a standard policy.
  • Equipment. Excavators, breakers and attachments need contractors equipment coverage. Liability doesn't cover your own machines.
  • Additional insured. Owners and GCs usually require additional insured status and waiver of subrogation on the policy itself.

Questions

What Demolition Contractors Ask Us

Don't see your question? Ask us directly. A licensed agent will answer, in English or Spanish.

Does my general liability cover demolition?

Not always. Many policies exclude it or limit it to interior work. We read your policy and place the work with an insurance company that covers it.

What about asbestos or lead?

Most liability policies exclude them. If your work disturbs hazardous materials, you likely need contractors pollution liability, and some jobs require a licensed abatement contractor.

Do I need higher limits for demolition?

Many contracts ask for them, since damage to neighboring property can be expensive. An umbrella is often the most efficient way to meet the requirement.
