Coverage Built for Retail Stores

We compare several insurance companies and put the pieces together so nothing important is left out.

  • A business owners policy for property and liability together
  • Coverage for inventory, fixtures and improvements
  • Business income if a covered loss closes your store
  • Crime coverage for employee theft and robbery
  • Products liability through your general liability policy
  • Workers' comp for your staff
  • Cyber coverage for point-of-sale systems

Good to Know

Before You Buy

Retail claims usually come from customer injuries, theft and property damage. These are the points we go through with every store owner.

  • Inventory changes with the season. Make sure your property limit covers peak inventory, not your average. Some policies can raise the limit automatically during busy seasons.
  • Business income pays the bills. If a covered loss closes your store, business income coverage can replace lost profit and keep paying rent and payroll while you rebuild.
  • Employee theft is not standard. Crime coverage for employee dishonesty, robbery and forgery is usually separate from your property coverage.
  • The products you sell. If a product you sell injures someone, you can be named in the lawsuit. General liability usually includes products coverage, but check the limits.
  • Your lease sets requirements. Many commercial leases require specific liability limits, additional insured status for the landlord and coverage for improvements you make.

Is a business owners policy enough for my store?

For many small stores it is a good base. Larger inventories, high-value goods or special risks may need added coverage, and we show you where the gaps are.

Does my policy cover shoplifting?

It varies. Many policies limit or exclude unexplained inventory shortages. We show you exactly what each quote covers for theft.

What does my landlord require?
